About The Informal Grub

Hi, my name is Casey Barbles.

The Informal Grub’s journey began in January 2016 –  6 months after I was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome and Mast Cell Activation Disorder.

My geneticist advised I eat a vegan + fish diet and create a life more conducive for the diagnoses I was given. This meant changing a lot of activities that I loved but also felt defined me as a person. This also meant dropping a lot of delicious indulgences.

The Informal Grub started at a way for me to learn about new recipes but has grown into a platform that can educate on how food is medicine. Follow my journey as I heal and maintain my body as I fight the daily struggles of chronic illnesses. This site is filled with recipes, nutritional facts and awareness on what aids and ails me. Hopefully along the way, I can enhance the way you grub.
